By admin @ 3:48 PM :: 713 Views :: 0 Comments

Come and watch the undefeated San Diego Lions take on the Orange County Bombers in their first home game for the year. The two teams met just 2 weeks ago and the Lions were victorious in a close hard fought contest. This weekends games promises to be no different.

All spectators are welcome and if you've never seen a game of Aussie Rules footy before this is a great oppurtunity. Best of all it's FREE. There will be food and drink on sale and the action promises to be fast, furious and tough.

The game will take place at Wagenheim Middle School. Kick off will be at 2.30pm Saturday, July 29th 2006. That is the front entrance of the school. There is a car park and entrance to the ground on Black Mountain Road. Across from Hourglass Community Park.

Location: Wagenheim Middle School (9230 Gold Coast Drive, San Diego, CA 92129)

Probably best if you bring your own portable chair!

Hope to see as many people out there supporting the Lions as possible!

Go Lions!

Lions beat Bombers in blistering heat.
By admin @ 5:56 PM :: 863 Views :: 0 Comments

Saturday saw the SD Lions travel to LA County to face the OC Bombers in their first full 4 quarter game of footy against each other for the 2006 season.

110 degree heat is certainly not the ideal temperature for a footy game, but summer in SOCAL it can’t be avoided, either way the Lions prepared themselves for a solid clash against the Bombers. The ground had a great surface, although a bit on the small side (which would pose a bit of a problem for the free flowing play of the Lions) and the crowd was ready for the heated battle.

Umpire Bitmead who was officiating solo for this game, held the ball aloft and into the game we went.  The Lions won the first tap and headed towards goal but were unable to convert.  The Bombers on the rebound kicked the first goal of the match, which started the Lions off on the wrong foot…again.  The first 2 quarters were a tough, hard fought battle with some very congested and scrappy game being played.

Frustrations grew and the temperature rose both on the ground and under the collar.  At half time the break the Lions trailed a very tenacious Bombers by 2 points, the goal kicking or lack there of certainly added to their woes.  Coach Nicholas was not very happy at the long break stating that the first half was one of the worst games that he had seen in a very long time.  Needing the Lions to regroup and start playing their own brand of footy, some strategic changes were made.  JV went to CHF and Freddy into the middle was enough to reignite the Lions passion.

The third quarter saw the Lions lift and play “Lions Footy”.  The game opened right up and everyone lifted.  The goals came more freely and some great passages of footy were finally seen.  At the final break the Lions had pulled away to a comfortable 5 goal lead. The Lions certainly had more passion and plenty in the fitness reserves to hit the fourth quarter hard, which they did coming away with a comfortable, but hard fought victory
