Jaguars get the jump on the Cougars in Metro Game #2
By LionsAdmin @ 7:51 PM :: 179 Views :: 0 Comments

Saturday- May 17th...
The Jaguars have defeated the Cougars in a hard fought 109-90 victory in Metro Game #2.
The ball was bounced early Saturday morning, with the sun already fierce. The Jags seemed to be energized by the sun early and dominated the first quarter kicking a quick 5 unanswered goals. As the heat continued to rise, the Jaguars kept the momentum with strong footy all around the ground. Jezza was a force in the backline, moving the ball through the sure hands of Gibbo and Harves in the centre. Matty continued his impressive rookie season in the ruck, pushing down the ground to kick a couple of running goals, and Dan continued his strong play in the forward line. Making up for his absence in the Metro Game #1, Captain Blankenship was in stellar form, and by the time Bobby blew the whistle for halftime, the Jags had built a demanding 44 point lead.
However, in true Lions spirit, the Cougars fought back hard in the second half behind their trusted veterans Viking, Nickel, JJ and Jeffo. Red was pivotal out of the centre as the Cougs began to find a rhythm missing in the first half. Big Richard was a beast in the forward line, kicking a game high 5 goals as the Cougars started to overun the tiring Jaguars in the final quarter.
In the end, despite outscoring the Jags 10 goals to 6 in the second half, the Cougars ran out of time, victims of a big first half deficit.
Once again, it was another skillful fast paced game of footy with a good turnout. Thanks to all who showed up!!

Once business was over on the footy field, it was time for players and supporters to indulge in a little pleasure. Brando hosted all for precious pies and beer, enabling those involved to limber up for a big night in Pacific Beach. It was monumental night in PB involving ping-pong piffing, salubrious singing, inappropriate dancing, sneaky hook-ups, and a smattering of cross-dressing and, of course, nudity. All in all, the Lions ticked all necessary boxes for a great night out!

RECENT NEWS - Updated 5/6/08

Thanks to all those folks that helped make last Sunday (5/4) a very successful day for the Lions.  Our first Metro game for the year, between the Jaguars and Tigers was most entertaining, with the Tigers coming back in the last quarter to win by 17 points.

Also, Quiz Night #1 at The Wit’s End saw some 30 Lions (and supporters) test their brain power, some with success, some not so much.  Either way, much fun was had!
