After a hard earned but lackluster victory in Dallas, we will be looking to improve our performance with the addition of as many as 6 or 7 key players into the line up. As such a better performance is to be expected, however Golden Gate will be a tough proposition especially on home soil, so be prepared for a contest! At stake is pride and the Burmann/Dusting's cup. MVP for the match will receive a 3 night accommodation package in Lake Tahoe (Value $750). Cabin comes fully self contained and sleeps up to 8 people. Restrictions apply.
Go Lions!

The San Diego Lions are pleased to announce the naming of the 2006 team captains. Congratulations goes out to Brendan "Freddy" McDonald and Justin "Val" Valley for being named Captain and Vice Captain accordingly.
|
Freddy has led the team over the last few years and has been positioned with the task of leading the Lions into the 2006 National Championships. Freddy, as many would acknowledge, is one of the best football players in the USA and has consequently earned the respect of his fellow players.
Justin joined the Lions in 2006 and has already had his presence felt. Justin has played with a couple of other teams throughout the USA prior to joining the team, in addition to a season in Australia whilst on an exchange program with Macquarie Uni. He is an impact player that will definitely help lead us to victory in 2006.
In addition we will have Brandon Blankenship leading the backline for the 2006 season. Brandon is definitely one of the most consistent players within the USA, and has been acknowledged by representing the US Revolution team in its recent campaign in the International Cup in Australia.
With these 3 leading the club this year, the San Diego Lions are well positioned to leave their mark on the 2006 season.
Good luck to everyone.

The San Diego Lions headed to Dallas for their first official hit out for the 2006 season against the Dallas Magpies.
|
|
The Lions were taking a team of 19 players to tackle the Magpies, until Pearso unfortunately missed not one BUT two flights, and therefore had 18 players. Friday night saw the team arrive into Dallas, at various times, where they headed straight to the Saltgrass steak house to satisfy the carnivorous B Nik's carcass craving. After a hardy meal they bunked down for a good nights sleep in preparation for the game. Saturday morning was a beautiful day, sunny and warm with a gentle breeze. A predicted high of 95 was going to be a perfect Sun Diego summers day. We all loaded up the vans and headed as a team to the ground for the big game. A nice sized field, a fairly good turf, nice weather, a perfect day for footy. The stage was set for the big game.
With the absence of Pearso, and some new players to the club and 2 new players to the game, the Lions prepared to take the field against the Magpies. Coach Scotty addressed the team and set the goal of hitting them hard right from the first bounce, kicking the first goal, and coming into the break with a comfortable lead. Freddy won the toss and the Lions lined up for the first bounce. The Lions won the first bounce, and kicked the first goal which set the tone for the most of the game. The Lions were ahead at the first break thanks to the center dominance of Jeff, Freddy, Andy and Ash.
The second quarter Coach Scotty set the next goal of kicking 5 goals which would set them up for a solid victory. Unfortunately the Lions didn't kick 5 goals but still dominated all around the ground winning the second quarter comfortably, the quarter was marred by one of the gutsiest players in the club taking a huge blow to the back. Jack, our 15 year old back flanker, whilst backing into a pack to take a mark, was steamrolled by 3 players at full speed. Jack took no further part in the game.
The temperature was rising both on and off the field and the half time address Coach Scotty urged the team to come out hard and kick the first goal and break the spirit of the Magpies, make the third quarter a strong one and go into the fourth quarter with a commanding lead, well that is not how it played out. The Magpies came at the Lions and caught them unaware, before long the game was now becoming a real test for the Lions. At the 3 quarter break the Magpies had edged their way back into the game, which was now making the job harder than it needed to be. During the address Coach Scotty demanded the team play with passion and guts like Jack did and win the game for him. The fourth quarter saw the Lions play Lions footy and totally dominate the quarter. Andy and Justin both rose to the challenge and ensured the Lions kicked away with a solid victory.
The final scores...
