SD Lions kick off 2006 in style
By Junkyard @ 3:06 PM :: 770 Views :: 0 Comments :: General

The San Diego Lions kicked off their 2006 season in great style. A pride of lions met at Del Mar beach at 10am to embark on the first session which included a nice run along the beach with a game of “handball” in the soft sand.
We had a great turnout, which included some new faces, some old faces and a few round faces.  With a long season ahead and the excitement aleady shown, I am sure the Lions will come through as one of the fittest teams in the USA.  Just to prove the dedication and commitment to fitness, the post training session saw the continuation of a timely Aussie tradition, with a pie night...with a keg of beer. Without a doubt some of the finest pies on the planet….compliments of the lovely Jan Bitmead.  With pies like that readily available, the fitness work will have to double.  I belive best on ground went to JJ with a 3 pie consumption.....nice work.

Welcome to the new guys to the club...Jack, Troy, Tristen and Justin.  Also, it was great to see Rick back.  2006 will be a great year for us, no doubt.

Training will continue this weekend, on SUNDAY at Del Mar.  We will be leaving the meeting point at 10am sharp!!!

Training the following week will be on Saturday, as the Superbowl is on Sunday.  10am at Del Mar.

We will be constantly updating the website with training times and locations, as well as all the social events, so please go ahead and register on the site.

2006 will be the year of the LION.

LA Week Representatives
By admin @ 11:42 PM :: 650 Views :: 0 Comments

On the weekend a number of Lions players and band of loyal supporters headed North to UCLA to watch some footy! San Diego was well represented in the curtain raiser game with all players contributing to the game.
laweek.jpgThe guys were playing in the curtain raiser game to the Swans vs Kangaroos exhibition game, organised as part of the G'day LA Week festivites. The curtain raiser game pitted the USA revolution versues the Australian All Comers. In perfect conditions the Aussies managed to get away with a win, but not without a fight and the USA team can take a lot from the game and hopefully become better players for it. By the final siren the Aussies had come away with around a 5 goal victory, but surely football was the real winner! Well, football and those criminals selling meat pies for US$7...

San Diego was well represented on both teams. For the USA we had new recruit Justin Valley (who will be a welcome addition), old lions Michael Russell, Martin "Mini Me" Mondia, Jeff Blankman, JJ Cisneros and Brandon Blankenship. The Aussies were represneted by Andy Scott, Todd Conway, Cam Trickey and car accident victims Chris Richmond and Brendan McDonald.

It was also great to see so many supporters cheering the guys on and we hope it's the start of what looks to be an exciting 2006.

Go Lions!

First Social Function, Pie night!
By admin @ 9:01 PM :: 479 Views :: 0 Comments

Following the first Pre-season training will be the first Lions function of the year. This will be a Pie Night (during the day). Bob and Jan have generously offered to host the event at their place in Pacific Beach.
This function will kick off at 1:30pm. This is the first of many social functions that we will be holding this year, so let's try to get along and make it a great start. (Directions can be obtained at training or by contacting Brendan or Scott)

Partners are more than welcome.
New players/memebers are not only welcomed but encouraged.
Bob has offered to put a Keg of beer on, all other alcohol is BYO.

The Lions board greatly appreciates that Bob and Jan have offered to put this event on, so let's make sure we get there and support it and get the year off to the right start!

LA Week Exhibition Game
By admin @ 5:08 PM :: 562 Views :: 0 Comments

This Sunday a number of players will be representing San Diego in the curtain raiser game to the Sydney Swans vs Kangaroos exhibition game. Unfortunatley there are no more tickets available for purchase. However if you are going to the game we will be meeting as a group on the Saturday night. Read on for details.

For all those interested, we will be getting together at Hennessey’s in Hermosa beach on Saturday, the 14th for a quiet beer and some food at around 6 or 6:30 for those playing in the game on Sunday, more like a water and some food.

The address for Hennessey’s can be found at this link:  Map Location or at: Hennessey's Website

Hope to see you all there!
